"They try so hard"
If I didn't know any better....
But I do.
This one is long...but worth it (Which is exactly what sh....never mind!)
So you just realized, after thinking for years there could never be a black
President, and even thinking this Obama guy may never make it past the
Primaries, that this thing just may happen. Lets say for a minute that you
belong to one of the numerous groups that for your own "personal" reasons
(and by "personal" I mean "racist") that you don't want this to happen.
Lets say those "personal" reasons make you uneasy at the very thought of
a black President. Whats the first thing you do?
Well when a man bases his platform on fairness, morality, and equality the
answer is easy. You find some dirt on him....
What!? You didn't find any? None?
Okay plan B is even better than plan A. You can attack him and the very
moral fiber of the African American.
ATTACK his church! Make them all look suspect by discrediting the
cornerstone of the black community. And since he is black Obama cant
help but to be covered in the same blanket of suspicion. Just in time to knock
him out of this race. Well he rolled of of that attack with grace and dignity
and fought hate with love and sound judgement. Hes good.
You attack him, you attack his Pastor, you attack his people.....
whats next?
You attack......OPRAH!!!
Oprah? Yeah Oprah.
Makes sense really. Who has the most influence in the black community.
Our Pastors, our rappers/celebrities, and Oprah. It used to be Bill Cosby
but he tried to take away our right to
use "qua" in our names (ex. Shaniqua, Quayshawn, Aquanisha)
Well you know black folks aint having that so...we lost Bill Cosby.
This video is slick though. It appears at first to be a video
by "concerned Christians" informing "ignorant ones" about this new
religion/cult that is sweeping the nation and stealing souls from Jesus.
Then on a deeper level, I (at first) took it as a video playing on the ignorance
of the multitude of Christians who don't read the Bible for ourselves and
depend on our Pastors and religious leaders to tell us what it says.
People who's hearts belong to the idea of God but never read the Bible
outside of church. Missing out on a certain oneness with God and a
knowledge of Gods ways.
But they have been in church so long and regurgitated enough sermons
that you appear to be closer to God than most others. Then they begin to
read their own press they think they got a "grip on this God thing" but are
missing fundamental truths of the gospel due to the tendency to grasp a
corporate concept of the cross without grasping the individual essence of it....yeah.
They had so much Cafeteria food that soul food (or home cookin')
just doesn't taste right.
Oprah doesn't say much out of line Biblically in this piece.
The only thing is the jealousy part and she just took that out of context.
But just for the record lets get this straight.
I don't even know why Oprah is relevant in this conversation.
Folks (especially black folks) need to realize one thing....
ready? OPRAH IS NOT A PASTOR!!! She is not a Reverend, Bishop,
Minister, Deacon, Usher, Chaplain, Priest, Nun or whatever!!!
Shes not even close. She says away from
the topic. All Oprah is is a person with influence.
But we as Christians depend so much
on influence to "win souls", instead of truth, that other people with
influence become a threat. Oprah is not pushing the thing she is discussing it.
Now I can tell you right now the other dude in the video is on some OTHER
stuff but why is Oprah even in this video. You find out at about 7:43 into it.
At 7:40 just wait for it.
What does Obama have to do with anything going on in this Video? He is the reason
for it. See Oprah is a member of Trinity as well and Jeremiah Wright is/was also her
Pastor. Don't believe the hype yall!!!!
Vote from your heart, vote from your pocket, vote from your dreams. Just don't vote
from ignorance and don't vote from fear.

Yeah the white man is tweaking but I'm reading one of Susan Taylor's (former ESSENCE editor) books and she says the same things that Oprah is saying. You can not base your relationship with God on beliefs but feelings. That video is crazy, I'll quote Kat Williams "if you don't have haters then you're not doing your job!". So hate on...I'll be in Philly with the HU students for Obama next weekend!
playing I AM OBAMA I hope!!!
YOU TRYING TO KICK KNOWLEDGE?
this video is a good place to begin what could be a very loong (TWSS) but fruitful discussion about two different paradigms for Christianity. I happen to be reading a ton of books on both schools of thoughts:
Oprah's new friend is a part of the modernist/humanist tradition which emphasizes the power of the individual self. They call it mysticism, but for reasons I can't explain in this small box IT IS FAR FROM. It's mystical-like and really just humanist and a result of the European Enlightenment (an admittedly simple reduction of their argument, but I can say more if needed)
On the other side are the "anti-moderns" or the Neo-Orthodox/Conservative Christian types who really are afraid of modernism, many of whom know little to nothing about it's possible benefits (they think self is a HOLE where technology and self-sufficiency has led to human excess and sin).
They're both right:
Jesus comes to save us and only through God's grace are we able to find salvation and deliverance (happiness, whatever you want to call it, it comes from God not YOU). This principle of God acting on-behalf (or in spite of) humans is as old as life itself (way older than Christianity; us humans like to have something bigger, better, and OTHER from us to worship)
On the other hand, Jesus tells us in Luke 17:21 that the kingdom of God is inside/within/among you (depends on how you work the Greek out). So on one hand God is distinct from man and on the other God is not only close but INSIDE and a part of you (which implies human ability and power, thus HUMANISM and the whole Euro-Enlightenment deal)
They're also both WRONG or misguided to think that humans alone (or faith in a text alone) will liberate them. There must be a synthesis of the two. Most sensible people know this. The problem is that neither "I Am Salvation" face nor "How dare you go against the BIBLE" face are being very sensible or considerate towards the possible truth in the other. They refuse to converse. And conversation and dialogue is everything
In relationships, in theology, in all my friends...
There's more to say here, I'll probably just do a video with graphics or something. Thanks for taking the time
To say that we base our relationship with God on FEELINGS is THISCLOSE to being absurd. Faith and Reason together, my friends. No one here believes in God because it FEELS RIGHT. It's okay to admit that we have TANGIBLE reasons for being a Christian. Don't worry, you may think you're using God
But He's Using You
Ok that was extra long...
But I get it
