PureMusic Remembers: MJJ (a place to mourn)

We at PureMusic are ALL hurting. Even BreevEazie (@EazieDuzit), who thinks Prince is better (we all have flaws). I got the news while getting my hair cut. My barber heard at the same time, and honestly it's the reason why my hair is shorter than it usually is: he cut a plug in my hair on accident.

Simply put, Michael Jackson was the greatest to do it. When the 50's came and groups sang and danced in unison, he was #1. If the records don't prove it, the TV CARTOON will.

When the 60's and 70's came and funk and disco reigned, so did he.

When disco died and pop rock took over, he made Thriller. The biggest selling album of all time. He didn't mind changing with the times. In all of it, he was absolutely masterful.

"Bad" and "Dangerous" revolutionized the way we think about Pop Music. For 80's babies, this is where we fell madly in love. We knew Thriller, but we KNEW KNEW "Bad."

You know the biography, discography, the genius and the mystery that people will try to make his legacy. THIS SPACE IS TO LEAVE MEMORIES YOU HAD OF MJJ so that we can all mourn and smile together. One memory in particular adds perspective to the many tears and stunned silence I've experienced through this loss.

When MOONWALKER came out I was a fat kid who loved Michael Jackson with every ounce of my being. He was like my big brother. We had the movie on VHS and only one VCR in the house. When things got crazy, and that was often, I would steal the VCR from downstairs, put it in my room, and watch Moonwalker so I could fall asleep (sorry mom). I WATCHED THAT MOVIE EVERY SINGLE DAY for years.

I'm crushed right now. We need each other in times like this. Please leave a MEMORY, a FAVORITE SONG ("I Can't Help It"), a pic, or ANYTHING YOU FEEL LIKE SAYING RIGHT NOW.

Miss You Big Bro. We will hold it down.

ok, so in the early 90's i had the biggest crush on mj. i mean seriously Thriller is STILL the best music video. That video still gives me creeps He is way more than an icon, i mean think about it. His music video's would premire on tv like the president was talking. Anything on MJ made headlines whether it was good or bad. What other artist do u know today has signature clothing and moves? this man had a sparkling white glove, flooded black pants w white socks, always a white t-shirt and a sparkling jacket. The man didnt' even invent the moonwalk but he made it a signature move. Love always Stephanie

I don't think there are words to describe how I feel. I'm so sad I felt like MJ was family. EVERYONE that knows me, knows I love MJ. I'm happy that I discussed MJ like the legend he was and gave him his props while he was still living. I let everyone know he was a brilliant musical genius.

I didn't think things would touch me so much, but as the evening wore on and I watched more Michael Jackson footage, videos and pics, my heart was reminded of fonder times, when just saying his name would bring a thrill of excitement. How as a child I would clamber to the TV to watch his videos, how we all wanted a Michael Jackson jacket. Watching the cartoon on Saturday mornings, wearing penny loafers and trying to do the moonwalk. Then I noticed I was crying and haven't stopped all afternoon. He will be missed.

Wow, I wish y'all would've known the Thriller album like you knew Bad. The best-selling album of all-time. I'm 34, so I have a little advantage. But yeah, MJ will be forever missed. I just hope I will see him again in eternity. Would be a shame if we don't. :(

Quite simply put he was the sound track of my childhood and some of the best memories I have. His music evokes a lot of happy times and sad one's as well. I had heard songs of course, but I discovered the genius that is "Off the Wall" on the drive to Mississippi for my Grand Mother's Funeral at age 12. (remains my favorite...2nd is Thriller...3rd Bad)

Anywho...thank God for him, his music will live forever...so be happy...cause like all our music legends, there work is an Ipod click away.

#On God and Michael Jackson...Feel how you want about the man, but understand his life was an example of the greatness anyone of us can achieve when we realize the potential God has put in us all...I heard a wise woman say "thank God, Michael loved us enough to be great...his greatness if proof of Gods love and I'm comforted by and thankful for that fact...

“If you enter this world knowing you are oved and you leave this world knowing the same, then everything that happens in between can be dealt with.” -Michael Jackson, R.I.P

I saw this quote and thought it was prefect.

Dont let anybody tell you I dont feel it. I was in public when I found out and I had to just wander around Comp USA to keep from getting emotianal. I couldnt take 92.3 playing all the songs and people calling in confused.

I do love Prince and I do think Prince is the greatest Artist of all time. But the fact is Mike is the greatest ENTERTAINER of all time. He was also one of the nicest and most caring.

(I was young but I think this is how the story went)

My best friend when I was 10yrs old had Cancer. The Make A Wish Foundation gave him one wish. His biggest wish was to meet Mike. But he said he'd rather go to Disney Land so that my brother and I could go too.

Make A Wish told Mike and he said Let them go to Disney and when he gets back he could come to Neverland AND we could go with him to both. Mike was that kind of guy. Sadly my friend died before we could do either but MJ looked out and was willing to do anything for a sick kid.

He put himself out there to the point of hurting himself and his image to help these kids. Even when they called him gay and a child molester he took those bullets for the sake of the ones he could help.

This is a well put together post. Illsay that the greatest thing about MJ was his ability to unite...the staunchest racist (black or white) could definitely agree that Mike was BAD.

Mt older brother, who I have had a tumultuous relationship with at times was/is a huge fan, and the way we would come together to watch an MJ premiere is forever etched in my heart and memory.
